Vicante
Thanks to the effort of a man named Arod Baldwin, we have been able to learn about the island of Vicante. We had to adjust his description a bit, but in general his information seems genuine. The reason why we trust his observations and did not check them on our own, is simple. Vicante lies far from all of the known shipping lanes.
The island of Vicante is found far south of the island of Mercantie. Even so far south, it is considered part of the southern region. However, the culture is still one that would be compared most to the cultures in the central region, so that is where we have grouped this island.
The island is pretty circular and measures around 150 miles across.
Movement
Since the mountains in the middle of the island are considered sacred, traveling takes a little longer as taking the direct route. However, many a well traveled road is found on the island, so the average travel speed is rather high, even when using wagons or carts.
On horseback, you can reach any village on the island within four days travel.
Geology of Vicante
Most of the shores of Vicante are rather high mountains, however there are enough rivers, creeks and other places where it is rather easy to travel thru this rather thin stretch of mountains.
Inside this mountain ring, there is a ring of rather flat, sometimes a bit hilly land, where you find many a farm, some woodlands and some decent sized villages. Most of the larger settlements are build close to the central mountain core of the island.
Little is known about the central mountain core, as it is considered sacred and only high ranking priests of Akron are allowed to travel into these mountains.
Political situation
For different trades there are guilds and all villages have some sort of village council as well. The metalworkers and priests in each village are seen as the authorities and they select one of their circle to represent the village in the islands cabinet.
Crime and Justice
In most villages the metal workers double as the local peacekeeping force, while justice is spoken by the clerical community.
Magic
The use of magic on Vicante is strictly regulated. Only registered priests of Akron are allowed to use magic.
Other magic users are tolerated, as long as they do not use their ability's.
Those who have sorcerers blood coursing thru their body, are educated by one of the five sorcerers, until such a state that they can control their gift. After this, they are no longer allowed to use their gift, unless one of the sorcerers deems he needs to educate a apprentice.
These teacher sorcerers are all appointed by the clerical body of Akron.
Revered gods
The only god that is revered on Vicante is Akron. He is revered both by the living and guides the dead to their final resting place.
All metalworking shops are considered temples of Vicante, but next to the core mountain there are several temples of Akron as well. No buildings are allowed to be erected inside this ring of temples.
Main population
As far as we can tell, the entire population of Vicante is human.
Economy
Vicante does not trade with other islands.
