Sharks-Edge
Talking to our employees and having visited Sharks-edge twice on our own, we felt it a good idea to introduce Sharks-Edge to you.
We think that Sharks-Edge and the villages close to it, located on Quiro, are the type of village you might encounter quite often while traveling along the roads of Teolin.
Population
The population of Sharks-Edge numbers about 259 people, among which you will find about 38 half-elves.
Religion
The hamlet of Sharks-Edge still has two small temples within its borders. Just north of the square, there is a very small temple of Irtolie, while just south of the square there is a temple of Poseidon.
Now that two of the villages at the southern end of Quiro have been pillaged and burned by pirates and goblins, the cleric of Irtolie spends about half of his days in the temple of Sharks-Edge, while the other half of his time he is in the neighboring village of Acurtilian.
The temple of Poseidon has a full-time cleric that even has a apprentice. Both of them live in a small house just right of the temple.
Commerce
The village is but a small hamlet and little are the people driving a business here.
Most noticeable is the inn/tavern of Alaria. It is well known for the fine food and the many beds she has. Even so during the month of Khal-Bular of the even years, there is little chance you will find a bed here.
The odds-and-ends shop of the Tale family sits right of the inn. This is the place you go to for those everyday items like a pint of oil.
A second shop like this one can be found all the way across town, near the eastern edge.
One black-smith can be found. He can, if needed shoe a horse, but most often he just makes farmer and fisherman's tools.
A armorer/weapons dealer drives a dying business next to the black-smith. Most often the man is found on his fields, tending his crop. If he needs to do some smiting, he visits his neighbor.
Next to the temple of Irtolie, there is a small barbershop.
A seamstress can be found behind the shop of the tale family, but the lady running this commerce does so only part of her time.
Most townspeople will provide stabling for riding animals, though just outside of town lives Margo Falisrock, who is a decent animal trainer. Some of the elves coming to the festival bring their flying mount and those typically find shelter with Margo.
The law
Sharks-Edge has two prison cells. The black-smith, some sturdy farmers and the son of the inn-keeper double as law enforcers.
Economie
Those that do not work in any of the mentioned establishments above, earn their living by fishing (about 50% of the population), farming (about 40% of the population) or herding animals (the last 10% of the population)
Notable events
Once every two years, in the month of Khal-Bular, there is a poetry festival on the island of Irdum. This is a happy event for business, as many of the visitors of the festival come early, or stay a little longer and often they will pay a handsome sum for staying a night at the inn or at any of the houses of the villagers. (Some say Bead & Breakfast was invented here)
Besides the obvious commercial gain, many a visitor to the festival also needs to be taken either to or from the island of Irdum, so the fishers make some nice coins as ferry masters. During this period, the population of Sharks-Edge often increases to around 500 souls.
With all the extra people in town, many a merchant comes from all over, so during this month, the town square is a busy place with all kind of stalls and boots of traders and ... other folk.
on the 24th of Dhon-Khar the villagers celebrate the victory of Kantilovar and his men over the goblin raiders of Maikalan in the year 3471.
