The island of Quiro is a island inhabited by humans who have lots of problems with goblins and the like, that infest the north or east side of the island.
Irdum on the other hand is a quite place, where little happens. The only reason that island is known, is because of the elven poetry festival that takes place there every other year in the month of Khal-Bular.
The island of Irdum does not even have a port, so the people who want to visit the festival usually arrive at one of the two ports of Quiro and then travel across the island to find a fishing boat that will take them to the other shore. Many of those seeking a boat do so in Sharks-Edge. Some even swim across, as at low tide, you would have to swim only about 300 to 400 ft.
It is only because of the fact that we have visited this festival once, that we know so much about Irdum. Most people believe it to be uninhabited.
Geology of the islands
Quiro is a rather rocky island that has many high hills and sharp mountains. The eastern side of the island especially is not inhabitable because of this and very hard to travel as well. This is also the reason why the goblins have never been chased away there, as it is simply to difficult to take an army to go and hunt them out.
Sometimes rich kids from other islands come here to hunt goblins there for fun, but this is illegal due to the fact that sometimes they don't return....
Irdum is a much nicer island, there is just some strong mountains surrounding the island at most sides and the central part is all trees. The reason that the island is inhabited by only a few, is the fact that it is very hard to get supplies to Irdum.
Political situation
Quiro is officially a kingdom that is ruled by king Xavier of Gonral.
Well ehhr, last time he decided something was two years ago, when he passed a law that forbids Fey from spitting in the harbors.
In everyday life, the towns sort of run themselves and the most important men in every town is the constable.
Irdum has no real political system. It just sort of resides under the wings of the high elves of Kivarolan.
Crime and Justice
Quiro has rather a loose juridical system. In practice this means that the constable who leads the law enforcement team of a town, is also the judge. If he is in doubt, he will ask the local cleric for guidance.
Typical punishment on the island is to send people out to hunt goblins. Depending on the size of the group and the crime committed, the judgment will be made as to how many goblins have to be killed. Some people trade a fair trail for speed and offer or are offered to hunt goblins straight away. This is not considered a plea of guilt, but a honorable thing to do.
Magic
Magic is not very common on Quiro. There is no law against its use, but most would say that only clerics are allowed to use divine magic and only elven wizards are allowed to use arcane magic.
To be very precise on the last group, these elves would be best of, if they where high elves.
Revered gods
Some towns have their own patrons, but the deities that seem to be most popular on Quiro are Hera and Nike.
On Irdum, Aphrodite is revered as the only true god.
Main population
The main population on Quiro sometimes seems to be goblins, but it still must be humans.
On Irdum only elves are allowed to find a permanent home.
Economy
Since transportation to Irdum is always problematic, all goods are about 1.5 times as expensive as normal. Items that would be considered not "elf-like" are generally not available, just like items that would cost more then 1.000 gp are not generally available.
On Quiro any objects that would be "elven" or "human" are generally available but things like smaller armor for gnome etc. are not generally available.
Quiro makes money mainly by transporting goods and people to Irdum.

The map here is but a small version. We suggest you save the larger version that you will get to see when you click on the image. Especially when your goal is to use the map in your further exploration.
Clarifications
The large red dots near the north are the city of Quiro, which has a eastern and a western city part. About one days journey to the south, there is a little village without a name. Of late this very poor village has seen a flux in their economy and since that has started the towns-folk have talked about adopting a name. Current favorites are Arod's vile or Erve-akron. As the inn-keeper is inclined to call his inn the Arod-and-arms, the populace seems to favor the second choice.
A little further down the road, as in about another day's to another day and a half traveling, you will find Shark's Edge, the major crossing to Irdum.
