The Nexus of Heironeous

Paladins and Clerics following Heironeous often engage in battle. If they travel far and wide, often they tend to join The Nexus of Heironeous. Often this organization is referred to as a guild, but the guild is not the home to a prestige class or anything. It simply is a large group of Clerics and Paladins that group together on an island.
The current leader of the order or guild is called Delora. She is an old friend of ours.

At first only a few Paladins where hired by the inhabitants of Mergany, but soon Paladins started to flock to the capital Biloral and the monastery there grew larger. Over time the word began to spread that if you needed trusted mercenary's the monastery in Biloral was a great place to look for such people.
As the monastery's fame spread, it started to attract Clerics as well and the name of the Monastery was given to the group of people as well.
A couple of hundred years ago, some terrible wars ravaged Teolin and the original monastery was destroyed, but the order remained. The order grew and grew and so after a number of years, the monastery in Biloral became to small and so other monasteries where erected in other city's and villages on Mergany as well.

Organization

A Paladin that has battle experience, preferably from a significant war, always leads the order. Delora is considered to have not enough war experience, but she was chosen for her special significance for the island of Mergany.
Delora is the chairwoman of the Sagrilia, which is formed by eight Paladins and seven Clerics. The members of the Sagrilia live in either one of the four monasteries in Biloral. For the comfort of halflings, gnomes and the like, one of these monasteries is build to fit their height.
The members of the Sagrilia are chosen from the leaders of the Monasteries and their direct advisors. The members need to be at least of level 10.
Monasteries are always led by a Cleric that has a board of advisors. Depending on the size of the monastery, this board has four to ten members. The spiritual leader is always a Cleric, while the military leader is of course a Paladin. The board will always have as many Clerics on it as Paladins.
The leaders will be at least level seven, while board members will be at least level five.

Goal

The general goal of the order is not so much in spreading the belief in Heironeous, as his followers do understand and respect other gods. However they do strive to bring law, order, justice and universal good to all the twenty corners of the known world of Teolin.
This leads to a situation where the order actually sends out expeditions to rid the world of pirates, monsters and other evil.
Even though the order prefers the order of law over chaos, they do understand that not everybody can be forced to follow this path, so they do not actively battle those that are chaotic. Well, they don't battle them if they are good or tend towards good.

Funding of the order

The order is funded by its members, as they are required to donate part of their proceeds to the order. The order of The Nexus of Heironeous is a greedy order at that, as they demand twice the usual fee mentioned in the core rule books.
In return the order provides free training to its members, unlimited access to the library. Besides this, the order has a large collection of special weapons, wands, holy objects and other magically enhanced stuff any adventurer might need. These objects of course will only be made available to trusted order members on an errant sanctioned by the order.
As the order receives many requests for help, its members do tend to travel and fight a lot. Usually the requesters do not pay directly for this kind of help, but the orders members are allowed to take their bounty. If the requesters do pay for the help, the members of the order will not consider this payment not to be part of their part of the proceeds.
