Island of Glohtron
Fairly close to the northern region, the rough cultures are gaining stronger footholds. The island of Glohtron is a exception. There Orc's have lived for hundreds of years. It is only in the past two hundred years that humans have formed small villages on this island.
These human villages are one of the main reasons why trading with this island is sort of regular. On the other hand, the humans also are the source of some genuine half-orc villages. Currently the ruler of Glohtron (Krangel Glurtrugrag) has even made a law that prohibits villages to have human inhabitants only. It seems that new arriving humans only come here to make some money and then leave again. Only the ones that are born on Glohtron seem there to stay.
The island itself is much like the orc's living there, rough and harsh. Even the weather seems to help keep up that appearance. We did not have one entire day of sun during the two weeks we spend on this island. The island is rather large, but sparsely inhabited. We think this is for the better.
Movement
The island measures around one hundred twenty by two hundred eighty miles. This means traversing the island takes about three or six days on a light horse.
Most horses do not live this long on the island. They are considered food and with the appetite of the orc's.... Most traveling is done on foot and sometimes it is possible to use a cart or a wagon, which if pulled, are pulled by oxen.
This means that people with a lot of luggage take about eight to eighteen days and people on foot take about twelve to five days, depending on the direction they are traveling.
Geology of Glohtron
The island is a bit strange in shape, with a large mountain ridge forming the north-east coast. This ridge runs around sixty miles. From there the island fans out to the south-west, with the south-west coast being the only place where a ship may safely dock.
All human inhabited villages are found in a band of about fifty to seventy miles from the south-west coast line.
The island is covered in woods, hills, small mountain ridges and the like. It is one of the most differentiated islands we have seen so far. Judging by the geological diversity we have seen, we must assume that Glohtron has been formed by the impact of several meteors, which we think must have enlarged a existing volcano island.
To understand our estimation, you might be compelled to read a little about the history of the planet itself.
Political situation
The politics on this island are easy to understand. They are the politics of the great-axe. The orc (humans stand little chance in this political system) with most skill with this item, may rule the village.
The orc with the most skill with the great-axe and with most courage, rules the island. Currently this is Krangel Glurtrugrag. The ruler of the island sends the wisest orc to mercantie to represent the island in the great council, but much more important, this way the representative will not be able to plot against the strongest orc.
According to the law, any orc may challenge the ruler, but in general this only happens when the leader dies, otherwise entire villages will storm the capital and try to defeat the ruler and his guard. (No humans seem to live in the capital... guess why...)
Crime and Justice
Villages are small and all strangers are regarded with enough suspicion. Crimes are punished severely, by chopping of hands, banishment, death, you name it.
Still orc's tend to pick up items that are not in the hands of other people, while in public places. Also fighting for possessions seems to be quite legal. All in all, the advice would be, not to trust the local law-enforcer, but be very protective of your gear.
Magic
Magic is not used by the locals on the island, so its use is regarded with great suspicion. Only the clerics dabble a little in magic, but clerics are few on this island.
When used with care, it may deter the locals from prying with your gear. When used foolishly, yours is the faith of a criminal.
Revered gods
Sobek is the main deity on Glohtron. Even though some fishers do live on the island, none of them revere Poseidon and even temples of Irtolie are very rare and only found in areas where humans dwell.
In some villages Ares is revered, but those villages are far away from the coast and it is not wise to travel there if you have no Orc blood running in your veins.
Main population
The main population of Glohtron consists of Orc's. About ten percent of the population is human and another eight percent is half-orc's.
Economy
If in the non-human settlements, the orc's are willing to trade, but often have little or no coin worth mentioning. Prices are reasonable most of the time, but much more often the orc's want to exchange goods or services, much rather then buy or sell something.
In the villages where humans have settled, do not count on the orc's to want to trade with non-islanders. It seems there they think humans and other outsiders are not to be trusted and frauds in their trading.
The island of Glohtron does not need that much from the outside world, so import is limited to basic equipment, which they often prefer to buy from dwarven traders. Export is natural resources, especially trees that they like to sell to dwarven traders.
Little do the inhabitants of Glohtron leave their island.
