Island of Dalsin

Little is known about the island of Dalsin. The main reason for this, is fairly simple. Though the island is not one of the smaller islands, it has been abandoned by most races long ago. Now only very small villages exist, most of which do not welcome visitors very eagerly.
This does not imply that the island would be uninteresting. We have heard rumors that large ruined dungeons lie in wait for the bold adventurer. On the other hand, we have not been able to find any entrance to these caves and complexes. Perhaps these are just rumors.....
We do find it strange that an island that measures well over a hundred by a hundred miles is inhabited by about one thousand living souls. It might make a great place for Ancalagon to go in hiding perhaps.

Movement

Traveling a hundred miles would take about two days on a light horse, but since there are hardly any paths and certainly no roads, traveling from one side of the island to the other may well take over seven days.
The average travel speed, regardless of the means of transportation is about one mile and a half per hour, which amounts to about ten to twelve miles a day.
Needless to say that travel by cart is impossible and on the island you will find no boats that will travel up or down rivers.

Geology of Dalsin

The island is filled with old mountains, that are rounded and not very jagged anymore. Most places would be considered to be nice and flowing. The majority of the island however is a ragged and wild place, where the woods rule. Some small villages try desperately to fight of the avalanche of the approaching forest.

Political situation

The island of Dalsin has no representation in the great council on Mercantie. The villages all seem to follow their own ways and rule. What the political system is like in each of the villages, is not known.

Crime and Justice

Would you steal the food of your mother and eat it whilst she is watching? Would you steal the bed of your uncle and sleep in it while he is watching? Does a village of thirty people need a prison?

Magic and Divine intervention

It is known that some of the villages have a strong religion or a strong flow of arcane magic. However the general attitude is different in each village. One thing is for sure, Wizards are not heard of.

Main population

Each village has its own population that usually is closely related through family ties.

Economy

Gold pieces often are not accepted. Most villages do not trade at all. In those rare occasions that villages are willing to trade, they normally want services or favors in return. Sometimes they do want some valuables, as on very rare occasions a scout is send to other islands to investigate. On the other hand, this only happens when a trader sets foot on the island, which is nearly never, as there are no ships on Dalsin.

Map of the islands

The map here is but a small version. We suggest you save the larger version that you will get to see when you click on the image. Especially when your goal is to use the map in your further exploration.
