Lockheed L-1011 TriStar - American Trans Air
American Trans Air (ATA) was the biggest operator of second-hand Lockheed TriStars. It operated 19 of the type, including 6 L1011-500 short-body aircraft. In 2005 some of these aircraft are still in service. American Trans Air was founded in 1973 as a travelclub airline (Ambassadair) and acquired full charter status in 1981. At first it replaced its Boeing 707 fleet with McDonnell Douglas DC-10s, but because of lack of second-hand aircraft of this type on the market, it switched to the Lockheed TriStar. In 1995 the airline adopted a new livery, shown on the aircraft on the picture below.
