Loches

This mighty thing is the Donjon of Loches. Built in the 11th century, this is the sky scraper of mediaeval times. The people living in this massive building were save in the knowlegde that the walls were almost 3 metres thick. For a long time the donjon was the only structure on the hill. Later on people build the city of Loches around it, including a church and a modest castle. The city walls are still erect and within it the people of Loches still live their lives. |
