| In july 2000 I went with Arno on a trip to the Greek Ionian Islands. We booked a two week cycle trip with Sindbad. |
| Little did we know that there would be a heatwave going on with temperatures up to 44 degrees centigrade in the shade... |
| First island we "did" was Zakynthos. A little touristy, but when you climb steep hills in the baking sun, you won't meet a (living) soul. |
| We travelled by boat from island to island. This is Argostoli harbour on Kefallonia, the second island on the trip. |
| Lixouri peninsula. Nice quiet beaches, but watch out for the sea hedgehogs (I can still feel the quills!) |
| To the left: Argostoli 20km, Lixouri 21km. To the right: Fiskardo 30km. |
| Supposedly one of the most beautiful beaches in Greece: Mythos. |
| These Bougainvillea grow everywhere. |
| View from the boat at Vasiliki, on Lefkas island. |
| During the devastating earthquake of 1953 most buildings where destroyed. So there is little to see in terms of antiquities. But as you see, natures makes up for the lack of man made beauties. This is Assos peninsula. It harbours a Venetian fortress. |
| This subterranean seawater lake called Mellisani Cave was discovered after the earthquake blew of the top of the cave. |
| We had a great time. |
