Free webproxy. Anonymous internet by surfing through webproxies
What is a Webproxy?:
- A webproxy is a site that works directly as a proxy. The webproxy offers a field,
in which you only have to put the name of the site you áctually want to visit. The site
you want to visit will then see the IP-address of the webproxy and not yours.
Using a webproxy:
I personally tested all the following webproxies (7-2003), except for the second. To get a
reasonable indication for true anonymity, I think it's important to take the Privacy Policy of
the webproxy into account. Cause when this Privacy Policy states that all your information is
normally logged and saved by the webproxy's administration, it's your right to ask yourself
what's gonna happen with this information. Of course this also is true in case of the lack of a
Privacy Policy.
And then finally, the free webproxies:
- -anon.inf.tu-dresden.de/index_en.html
- (Free download) Protects your privacy against your ISP, network
operator and your boss. It does not protect you against an adversery
who has the capability to observe all communication links on the internet.
JAP uses a single static address which is shared by many JAP users.
That way neither the website, nor an eavesdropper can determine which
user visited which website.
Instead of connecting directly to a webserver, users take a detour,
connecting with encryption through several intermediaries (= mixes).
Since many users use these intermediaries at the same time, the internet
connection of any one single user is hidden among the connections of all
the other users. No one, not anyone from outside, not any of the other
users, not even the provider of the intermediary service can determine
which connection belongs to which user.
The intermediaries (mix providers) are generally independent
institutions which officially declare, that they do not keep connection
log files or exchange such data with other mix providers.
After you downloaded the program you configure the proxy-settings of you browser like this
(Normally these will be the normal configurations, set during installation):
ADDRESS: 127.0.0.1
PORT: 4001
Enable the anonymisation-service like this:
Open JAP and enable "Anonymen Webzugriff aktivieren".
- -jmarshall.com/tools/cgiproxy
- (Free download) CGI script that acts a an HTTP or FTP proxy. Through
it, you can retrieve any resource that is accessible from the server it
runs on. The user is kept as anonymous as possible from any servers.
It's very simple to install, and very configurable.
When an HTML resource is retrieved, it's modified so that all links in it
point back through the same proxy.
You can download free SSL support for your server as well.
- -No personally identifiable information at all is collected
for users of the free Anonymizer service
-As they do not hold any personal information on their users
that could result in compromising their privacy and security, a court
order would be wholly ineffective.
- -www.proxyone.com (no images)
- Does not log anything you visit, when the proxy encrypts the URL you visit,
it makes it virtually impossible for proxyone or even your own ISP to
log/cache the web pages you visit.
- -www.idmask.com Uses java applet
- Does not access nor collect information you submit or receive while
using idMask.com service to surf the web. When the idMask applet is
running on your computer, all the information you send and receive via
your browser is handled by the applet running on your computer.
- You need to register first. Only email address. Then you can
only use the service for the rest of the day
They only log the first 3 digits of your IP. And the day and hour
of use, not the exact time
- -www.guardster.com
- Keywords are used from websites visited using the free webproxy,
as well as the user's IP address to target ads, but once the user session
is ended the server automatically erases all information temporarily
stored, such as IP addresses and websites visited.
- -@nonymouse.com (You get -small- adds on each page. They can easily be clicked away)
- @nonymouse doesn't keep records of accesses to the site. Usage logs will
be only created by technical problems and are immediately destroyed
after removal of the technical problem.
- -www.the-cloak.com/login.html (You need to have "session cookies" enabled)
- They have a record about their users surfing through their service
(IP NUMBER!!) These logs are deleted on a regular basis
- -www.idzap.com/services.php#freesurf
- The IDzap servers log IP addresses and access times in aggregate for
trafic monitoring purposes. They log pages visited only for the purpose of
investigations in case they receive report of abusive use of their service.
