A mega-band in the true sense of the word, Damn Yankees was a collaboration between Jack Blades (Night Ranger bassist), legendary Detroit guitarist Ted Nugent, Tommy Shaw (singer and guitarist of Styx) and drummer Michael Cartellone. In 1990, they released their debut self-titled album (Warner Bros.), which sold over two million copies; spawned four smash AOR hits ("Runaway," "Coming Of Age," "High Enough" and "Come Again"); and produced a No. 3 Billboard pop hit ("High Enough"). For 15 months in 1990-91, the band played 250 shows, often selling out stadiums.
Damn Yankees released their second album, Don't Tread (Warner Bros.) in 1992. The xenophobic opening "Don't Tread On Me" proved an enormous radio hit, but the album did not sell as well as the 1990 release. The group disbanded after touring in support of their sophomore release.
