Pyrrhus of Epiros Armybuilder Files

Files for Pyrrhus of Epiros army (as proposed by Jeff Jonas on his site www.ancientbattles.com ).

Other Italians (not yet available)

I had some time on my hand and decided tot make armybuilder files for the Epirote army on your website. Just copy the 3 "suc-xxxxxxx.wa" files and the PW-samnites.wa into the DATA directory in the armybuilder directories and it should work. Should you (and I'm sure you will) find faults: mail me and I will try to fix them.

The files are split into two scenarios, Eastern (Greek and Macedonian campaigns), and Western (Italy and Sicily campaigns).

No changes in existing Army Builder files:

  • I especially did not alter the existing greek and barbarian file (but made copies), so that future updates on these files will not conflict with my files.
  • I made an eastern and western campaigns choice when you start the list.
  • The Rhodesian "must be smallest skirmish group" rule is not possible yet in armybuilder.
  • I also could not find any Italian "punic wars" armies, so they are also not included.
  • All other rules have been implemented.

Some decisions I took (and are all underlined by Jeff):

  • Greek thebes/thace/tessalians en tessalians in the main army ALL suffer from the not allowed with galatians rule.
  • I removed the general from the greek allies; the army already has a general.
  • It didn't mention the oracle rule for the greeks. I suppose you may not use it.
  • 1 chieftain per 500 point. I concluded 1 chieftain for 0-500 point of galatians, and a second only after 501 points of galatians taken.
  • 1 elephant must be taken. Pyrrus must be taken.
  • 1 unit of epirote phalangists must be taken (cause with an macedonian unit an epirote unit is mandatory).
  • Concerning the skirmishers Jeff wrote that they have a buckler and javelin. The cretan skirmishers have a shield and bow. I suppose the cretans don't have javelins.

Extra:

  • I included an experimental Samnite list (as proposed bij Allen Curtis. See below.).

Samnites, Syracusan & Etruscans Armybuilder Files

Samnites army list (v1.21 as proposed by Allen Curtis on www.amazonminiatures.com/youandwhosearmy/games/wab/index.htm). recently (march 2004) I heard from the author of the "Republican Roman: Italian & Punic Wars" WAB supplement that this list will be in the book, almost unchanged.

---- The Samnite and Etruscan files are removed with with regard
for the forthcoming "Rise of Rome" (22-6-2006) ----

In november 2004 Allen told on the WABlist that the Syracusan army list bij Eli Arndt will also be much the same as the list he provided.

Spartacus Armybuilder Files

Simon Brown made some difficult to use army lists in this supplement.

Download Spartacus Late Republican Roman armybuilder file

Download Spactacus Slave Armies armybuilder file

Alexander the Great Armybuilder Files

Newer files for Alexander the Great that replace the version 6.1 files:

Download AtG Greeks armybuilder file

Download AtG-Alexander armybuilder file

The improvements I made are following:

Rise of Macedon

  • Ilarch should be Hipparch (only to match the book, Ilarch is ok and may have been a better choice!)
  • Pezhetairoi should be movement 4 now.
  • Skirmishers now cost 4 pts.
  • Hypaspists get a [drilled macedonian box], but regular phalanxes did not.

Greek Mercenaries

  • Peltast Light Infantry troops included.
  • Cretans inclusion validation now includes peltasts and Hoplites instead of psiloi
  • hoplites should always be in trained phalanx.

One other note to users

  • These new AtG AB files now enforce Philip to reduce the cavalry percentage to 25%.

Army Builder Software v2.x

The army builder files (xxxx.wa), downloadable above, work with the "Army Builder" software (version 2.x). You can find Army Builder at:

http://www.wolflair.com

You will also need the version 6.1 WAB files. These can also be found on the wolflair site.

After installing the wolflair software and importing these wab.v.6.1.ab files (through the import function within armybuilder software) you can drop the xxxx.wa files in the DATA directory that armybuilder created.

This directory is usually situated at "c:\program files\armybuilder\DATA".
