a family of bridges
for Leidschenveen
Leidschenveen is a new VINEX residential area at the outskirts of The Hague. The family of bridges to be designed there should reinforce the image of the area as locus. Our design considers the network of bridges as the skeleton of the new settlement. The bridges become public space, privileged places of encounter and carriers of urban meanings. They are not only functional connections but complex urban elements. A construction package of standard components makes it possible to realise the different types. These consist of mixed structures of steel and precasted alluminium with hard-wood top and a built-in lighting system.
