Sunday September 16, 2001           Whale Watching

Luckily the fog was lifting, and it was only somewhat cloudy. First we have breakfast at the hotel, which go by very slow. Finally we went to Jamies for our whale watch trip. We all got a rescue suit and a pair of gloves. You see, it's very windy and cold at sea. It was a very fast zodiac which was driven by Lynn our guide. We set off with 10 passengers on board. Once we clear the harbour we go Remko and Lynn our Whale Watching guidefull speed ahead! First we sail along a cliff with seals and after that we sail to a humpbackwhale. It was a splendid sight. The waves were very high and so Renate got very seasick. Remko could shoot some film of the whales. This was very hard to do because they sound very quickly. Next we sail to a gray whale, this was fantastic to see. Unfortunately Renate had to feed the fishes. At last we sail along some sealions and 2½ hour later we are 'already' back. We get there a warm cup of coffee to warm up a little. At the hotel we sat in the hot tub. We also go to the beach nearby our suite for a short walk. We saw some beautiful starfishes and anemones at low tide. Next we got into the car and drove to Combers Beach where we walked a 1-mile boardwalk through a beautiful primeval forest. We also walk around the Radar Hill. Although the dusk was falling we didn't see any wildlife. At 08:30 PM we enjoyed our meals at Schooner's restaurant. Yesterday we also had eaten at this restaurant. We go to sleep at 10:45 PM!
