Thursday September 6, 2001        Cold!

We awake early and at 8:15 AM were on the move again. The sun is still shining, so we decide to go first to the Hoodoos. Unfortunately the sun was disappeared when we arrived. To have a close look at the Hoodoos you first have to make a steep climb. After we made some pictures we get into the car and drive to the gondola. The gondola brings us up to the top of the Sulphur Mountain. A stonebuilt observatory is located at the top of the mountain. To visit the observatory you first have to walk a boardwalk with a lot of stairs, and in addition it's very windy and cold up there. But the view over Banff is outstanding. To warm up we took a soup at the mountain restaurant, which was quite expensive after all. Ink Pots at Johnston Canyon
Through the Bow Valley Parkway we drive to the Johnston Canyon, where we walk to the upper and lower falls. Were in the mood of walking so we continue to the Ink Pots which was 3.5 miles ahead. You can see 5 pools in all kind of colours like yellow, green and blue. Renate was dead tired, and then we had to go all the way back...But is was worth wile to visiting. After this exhausting walk we were driving back to Banff to buy a bear bell, candy's and two small schoolbusses. Renate and Remko also bought a nice pick-up truck as a present for their nephew when he's becoming 4 years old...

We have to shower quickly and after this we get into the car again to visit Patricia and Geert (acquaintances of Remko) who lives in Ghost Court Place. It took 1 hour and 15 minutes driving via a scenic route. The village was in the middle of nowhere surrounded by a beautiful scenery. Unfortunately it was already dark. With Geert we went for a small walk in the completely darkness! It was a pleasant evening so we left not until 1:30 AM. The weather was very bad on our way back and we had to drive in pitch-darkness. We finally arrive at our hotel at 2:50 AM. Quickly we go to sleep till 10 o'clock!!
