pla - peek - an
The 'wow pla - peek - an' is a shaped similar to a fish, and has two
wings on both sides. It is a another version of the wow ee-lum, in
that the bamboo curved frames are stuck out to make the wings, and a
tail is added below. Thai people in the south are familiar with sea
life and catch fish for food, they therefore use the shape of fish
to make their kites.

The 'wow pla' is similar again to the 'wow pla-peek-an', their
frames are the same, however it has no curved wing woods on the
sides. it has a simple fish shape with a head, body and tail. Its
beauty depends on its design, sometimes, the painted spots on the
kite make it look like a real fish.

pla-waan
The 'wow pla-waan' is similar to 'wow pla-peek-an' but without
wings. the head is shaped like the mouth of a whale by making it
like a wow hua-tak. The head is cut into two rays and a bamboo
circle is stuck at the end of the mouth. When covered with paper, it
looks like a real whale.

kuay
The 'kuay' is like the 'wow dui dui' of the south. its top has
similar curved wings, but its lower part is made like a buffalo
head, long curving horns to go with the wings above. Its head is
made with a yoke or a bow to make a noise like the cry of a buffalo
when it rises up into the sky.The 'wow kuay' is unique to the south.

wongduean
The 'wow wongduean' has been influenced by the 'wow bulan' from
Malaysia. the ends of the kite, are shaped like a crescent moon
which is the symbol of Islam. It is flown by Thai Moslems who live
around the Songkhla province, to show a unity towards Islam.

bai-mai
The 'wow bai-mai' is a kite covered with dry leaves instead of
paper. The leaves used depend on the trees found in each region. For
the southern part, they use leaves from the rubber tree which are
plentiful and easy to find. The shape of the kite is not fixed, one
can design whatever shape they like.

nok
The 'wow nok' kites are designed to resemble various kinds of birds,
and usually made with a yoke which is made into a bow shape with a
bamboo frame to make bird sounds. Their beauty depends and colouring
of the bird. Some kinds of 'wow nok' often look very realistic, in
flight.

nok-peek-an
The 'wow nok-peek-an' is another type of 'wow nok' but its
difference is its odd shaped wings on both sides make it look like
swallow wings. The head is like a bird and has a yoke which is made
into a bow shape with a bamboo frame to also make a noise like 'wow
nok'.

One of the most beautiful kits of the south is another bird
shaped kite called a 'wow nok-yoong' which is made with
colorful wings and tail just like a real peacock.
