Prindle 16 Tuning by Danger Sails
- Rigging and Setup
- Mast Rake:
- Forestay length - bridle shackle in to mast hound hole -
18' 3 1/2"
- Rudder Rake:
- From the straight edge along transom to tip of rudder -
3/8" forward
- Steering Slop: Wrap plumbers tape in adjusting threads of
tiller bar, No slop tiller kit, shim rudders for tight
fit in rudder heads.
- Jib Leads:
- Use the aft grommet hole.
- Mainsheet Pendant:
- If you are using the low profile blocks - 7"
- Shroud Tension :
- Make the tension very tight, but eased enough so the mast
can rotate downwind in medium winds.
- Tuning Upwind
- Light Air
- Main: Downhauled to be just smooth.
- Outhauled to have the foot batten curve - 1" to
2"
- Mainsheet trimmed for the leeward tell tail below the
Prindle P, on verge of stalling.
- Traveller should be centred.
- Jib: Downhauled to still have small puckers along the
luff.
- Moderate Air
- Main: Downhauled tightly for speed - but loosened for
pointing
- Outhaul the foot batten curve 0" - 1".
- Mainsheet trimmed for the leeward tell tale below the P
on the verge of stalling.
- Traveller should be centered.
- Jib: Downhauled smooth along luff.
- Sheeted tighter in smooth water and eased in choppy
water.
- Heavy Air
- Main: Downhauled tightly so the hull doesn't pop up.
- Outhaul tight.
- Mainsheet should be played to keep the hull skimming.
- Traveller set 0" - 1"
- Jib: Downhauled tight.
- Sheeted tight.
- Tuning Downwind
- Light to Medium Air
- Main: Downhaul loosened from upwind 2"
- Outhaul foot batten curve 4".
- Mainsheet should have only light tension.
- Traveller set at the end.
- Jib: Sheet tightened for speed and loosened to steer
lower.
- Barber Hauler: pull all the way out.
- Moderate to Heavy Air
- Main: Downhaul loosened from upwind 1".
- Outhaul foot batten curve 4".
- Mainsheet trimmed for leeward tell tales. Twist.
- Traveller set at the end.
- Jib: Sheet tightened to catch waves then eased while
riding waves.
- Barber Hauler max to 8" then ease it.
