A teacher creative writing named Grady Tripp at the Pittsburgh University
has a crazy weekend that involves:
a student who wants to kill himself,
a shot dog (called Doctor Dee),
a dead snake,
the Wordfest festival,
a (as it seems) stolen car,
red leather cowboy boots,
a transvestite,
a tuba,
a wife,
a lover,
lots of pot and booze,
and much more.
The story is told very lively with lots of humor. Although some things are
too crazy to happen, you believe them happening to him. All the
characters complement and learn from each other, need each other that
weekend so at the end of the book they all can go their own way as
stronger people. I know it sounds cliché, but it really isn't brought
that way.
I know some people don't like Chabon and others do, I'm one that likes
his writing. So I can only say: try it!
