Title: Educating
Rita
Author: Willy Russell
Genre: play
Rating:
A story about an older teacher and a young hairdresser taking classes.
Rita is a working-class girl wanting to learn literature. Frank is the teacher
who is most of the time drunk and in need of some money. So he reluctantly takes
on a student from Open University. What they both don't think is that they have
something in common, but after a few weeks they can appreciate each others point
of view and they even learn from each other: Rita learns to make choices for
herself and Frank learns that the world doesn't only exist out of literature.
This is a funny play with a serious undertone and certainly one to read.
