Advisory Mission to WHO Regional Office for Africa to assist on advocacy/social mobilization/programme communication for the Africa 2000 Initititive for Water Supply and Sanitation Regional Consultation in June 1996.

1995

Advisory Mission to China for UNICEF. UNICEF China requested IRC to analyze and document the experience with advocacy and promotion of improved latrines in Henan Province. A second part of the work concerned guidance in the development of a communication strategy and materials for wider promotion of sanitation in China. With the UNICEF project officer for sanitation spent two weeks on field visits to more than 20 villages in 12 counties with counterparts from the provincial Patriotic Health Campaign Committee (PHCC). Observations, interviews, and discussions with farmers, women, village masons, township and country magistrates, Water Resources Bureau staff and others resulted in a Case study report, Communication Guidance and Elements for a draft Briefing package on sanitation aimed to get more commitment from policy and decision makers.

1993 - 1994

Assisting development of IEC of in water and environmental sanitation in Guinea Bissau (Water Ministry/UNICEF). This included two missions to assist the analysis of existing problems in the sector, existing IEC activities and plans, communication habits, potential allies and the most effective media.
