The trenches

In the night of 27-02-44, six French soldiers came on the beach to look at the defenses. The Germans found out that something was wrong and made alarm. All six French soldiers died. The Dutch government placed a remembrance-stone at the location.

The Dutch organisation "Staatsbosbeheer" is the owner of the fortifications. During summers it is possible to have a guided tour through the covered trenches at Saturday. The guided tour is in Dutch. During the Winter the trenches are closed for public, because animals sleep there. You can find more information about the tour at www.staatsbosbeheer.nl

This is the wallpainting we found in the Commando-bunker of this location. In German the text is "Feind hort mit!" In english it is "The enemy is listening!". There is a phone drawn on the wall next to it. Usually the text was displayd on stickers on bunker-phones.
