Atlantic Wall in the Netherlands

Seeziel Batterie Brandenburg=> Baupunkt 25

Because of the construction works done to make the chanel (nieuwe waterweg) wider these bunkers are probably demolished. Even when it is demolished this battery is special, and we wanted to give some attention to it.
  1. 612 bunker for a pak.
  2. Sonder-konstruction with steel turret.

This is the steel turret wich was placed on the SK-bunker. The bunker was not a typical sort, but special desighned for this battery.

The guns were from origin dutch and taken of the " HrMs Hertog Hendrik" by the Germans in 1942. The dutch ship was ready for duty in 1904. In 1939 the name was chanced to Batteryship Vliereede. On 14-05-1940 the ship was captured by the germans. In 1941 the guns were removed and it became an floating Flakbattery. The Germans called the ship "Ariadne". In 1945 it was given back and in 1972 it was demolished.

The upper picture is a turret on the SK-bunker. the lower picture such a turret on a ship (koningin-regentes-type).

Strange is that there were three bunkers and only two of those turrets could be found on this kind of ships. That means that one turret was from another ship or that one bunker was not build. On the end of the was only two of the SK-bunkers were intact. One missed a gun? I don't know but it is a strange story.

the turrets were made of 102 mm thick steel. The guns had a calliber: 240mm
